wow i can't believe that works. i'll prolly give it a try here in the next couple days.

edit: alright i'm having a problem getting the SL .dmg to restore to my 8gb usb flash drive. I keep getting an error saying that the source image needs to be image scanned. what's going on here?

edit 2: ok i figured it out. if you get this error, just select the .dmg, click Images, then Scan Image For Restore.

alright i've got two problems.

1) my trackpad doesn't respond to the PrefPane under "other", it responds to the "mouse" pane. How do i fix that?

2) With kext helper 0.7 i can't figure how to tell it where to install the kexts. Nickca said to install some to to the /extras folder and others to the /extensions folder. How do I do that? i've got no sound..

So far my attempts to install SL on my 1000HE (2GB RAM) have been unsuccessful. I followed nickca's guide to the dot (used Netbookinstaller 0.8.2 and 0.8.3 RC2, installed on internal clean disk as well external USB to no avail). No matter what I do the installation stalls towards with 8-9min left (internal 9min, external HDD 8min).

Checking the installation log always states the same error:
"OSInstaller [154] : /postinstall : cp : /Volumes/ramdisk/dsdt/latest_dsdl.dsl : No such file or directory"

I am really keen to get SL to work as the stock WLAN card (Atheros) get's detected without a hitch and shows available networks. Doesn't work under 10.5.

Does anybody know what to do? I need help.

Got it working using nikca's guide. Wow, it is really faster than 10.5, I also bought 2GB of ram and I can finally work on 1000HE nicely. I haven't tested some stuff yet, like ethernet or bluetooth, but the most important thing is that I can use the stock wifi card without any problems. Loving the new SL. I had to wipe out my whole hdd though because of mbr partitioning. I wonder how hard would it be to install XP now. Can't be bothered to do it at the moment though.

I used the Voodoo kext for sound (it is really silent though, on Windows the volume was higher when maxed). Any other recommendations?

Thank you for the guide, I wonder what the battery life will be.

I just installed kext helper, dragged and dropped the Voodoo kext into the app, entered the password and installed...

First of all, huge thanks to nikca's guide & kexts!

Shoota:

In the kext helper, once you drag the kexts in there, just choose install. The settings in the kexts make them install to the correct spot.

As far as copying the other files to the /Extra folder, you have to go to
Finder - Applications - Utilities - Terminal
type or paste these commands in and press enter

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true

killall Finder

Now when you go to Finder, and then to your hard drive, you should see the Extra folder there and can copy the files. If you want to hide the hidden folders again, just go back to Terminal and use this command

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false

killall Finder

------
Tempsanity: I was able to actually get louder sound than under xp.  I went to System Preferences - Sound - Output, and turned up Master, PCM, and Output gain all the way. That should help a ton. They don't always stick for me though. I sometimes have to go back and turn them up again - I don't know if it gets lost when I restart of what.

The mute function doesn't work, you just have to turn the sound all the way down.

Thanks for everyone's feedback on getting 10.6 installed. I still have not made the jump to 10.6, just wondering if there are any outstanding issues with this install method (ie software updates, bluetooth disable, Time machine, Hyperthreading, Hibernate) or are all of these working?  Is there still a motivation to go try and reach a vanilla installation?
If people are positive here, I will give it a go!

Cheers,

hey monkey- for my purposes (basic stuff such as e-mail, internet, etc) SL is just dandy. I'm pretty sure the following are working, others can fill in if they want to. Wireless, bluetooth (although i can't turn it off except in bios but i don't use it), sleep, wake, all power functions, sound, screen brightness, battery life is very good (around six hours), all the standard plugins (java, flash, etc.), i've heard the software update works but it's not a compelling enough update to try it for me, and i'm sure there are things i'm leaving out but all in all this install is going to last me a long time, until there's another major update prolly. It's definately worth a try in my opinion.

@guitaradam16

Thanks for the hint! Worked great. Makes watching "Defying Gravity" so much more pleasant :)

As for my opinion on 10.6 - amazing it works so well on a netbook. I used 10.5 before, with occasional freezes (where you had to reboot) and some other issues (the stock wireless card being obsolete). 10.6 is faster and everything I tried so far works like a charm (including software update to 10.6.1!). I had to remove my XP installation to get SL to install, but it was worth it.

Has anyone found a fix for blutooth? Its kind of annoying to have to turn in off and on in the bios.

Does someone uses dual boot (10.6 & Windows)? If "yes", which loader is used, GPT or MBR and so on ...

P.S. Trying to set up SL & Win7 together on MBR ...

"OSInstaller [154] : /postinstall : cp : /Volumes/ramdisk/dsdt/latest_dsdl.dsl : No such file or directory"

The same is here, but I have an error in log as below:
"OSInstaller [164] : ./postinstall : cp : /Volumes/ramdisk/dsdt/latest_dsdl.dsl : No such file or directory" ...

Use Retail 10.6 with modded OSInstall for MBR.
Any opinions?

P.S. WoW! Finally I've got workable dual boot (Snow Leopard & Windows 7 with NetbookInstaller as loader) on same disk, GPT partitioned!
nickca, thanks for clear manual for SL installation!
Anyone, looking for dual boot too, refers to - http://www.hackint0sh.org/f184/87072.htm , it works! (I used last NetbookInstaller insead of Chameleon)

At this stage SL is basically installed.  I'm guessing it stalls at the point where it is creating your bootrecords...  Just reboot and continue the procedure.  It works, i tried it...

Only the onboard wifi card AW-NE766 is not recognized...  Also have the impression that the sound volume is way lower then in 10.5.7.

To switch show/hide files/directories I use attached program - more comfort to toggle!

I got it all working using this: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=186596&st=0 .

I installed Windows XP first, then installed Snow Leopard to an external hard drive and cloned that drive to an empty partition on my 1000he. This method also works with a Windows 7 install as it uses Chameleon to boot and all it does is read partitions. The hard drive is formatted as MBR, with NTFS for the Windows side and HFS Journalled for the Mac side.

Is anyone having problems with the on-screen battery indicator not working. Mine always shows an icon with an x and says no batteries available. Any help would be appreciated.
